The Art of Getting In
A three week intensive for writers applying to MFA programs, fellowships, and residencies.
The application process for MFA programs, fellowships, and residencies is deliberately opaque. You submit your work into a system whose logic is rarely explained and never published. This course demystifies that process, taught by someone who has been on both sides of it.
Over three weeks, we cover the full application package. The first session addresses the creative submission: what selection committees are actually looking for and how to evaluate your own work against those criteria. The second covers the written documents: the personal statement, the statement of purpose, the artist statement, and the strategic logic of building a strong list. The third examines something most application courses never address: how the creative submission and the written documents need to work together as a coherent package.
Before the first session, students will submit their creative piece and statement draft. After the course concludes, you will receive written notes on your full package, focused on how the two are working together and what would make them stronger.
Enrollment is limited.
Three sessions over three weeks. $275. Next session: April 18 - May 9, 2026
